Illini Men’s Golf In the Pros | April 17

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Five former Fighting Illini are slated to tee off this week in the professional ranks, including a trio of golfers competing on the PGA Tour, and alums representing the Orange and Blue in events on both the Korn Ferry Tour and the LIV Golf League.

PGA TOUR

Three Illini greats – Thomas Detry, Nick Hardy, and D.A. Points – are all part of the field this week at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans at TPC Louisiana (Par-72, 7,425 yards) in Avondale, La.

Points has played in the Zurich Classic 11 times since 2005, including a runner-up finish at the 2013 event. Hardy placed 21st last year in his first appearance in the tournament field, and Detry will be making his debut at TPC Louisiana.

Detry, at 37th, and Hardy, at 95th, both rank inside the top-100 of the most recent FedEx Cup standings.  

KORN FERRY TOUR

Brian Campbell head from Arlington, Texas to Lakewood Ranch. Fla., just off the Gulf Coast, to compete in the LECOM Suncoast Classic. The start will be the sixth of the season for Campbell, who made the cut in each of his first three tournaments of the season.

Campbell previously teed off in the tournament, at the Commander Course (Par 71, 7,113 yards) at Lakewood National Golf Club, in 2021 when he opened with a 66 in Round 1 and made the cut before ultimately finishing in a tie for 65th.

LIV GOLF LEAGUE

Thomas Pieters and his RangeGoats teammates will put their skills on display at the fourth stop on the LIV Golf League schedule at The Grange Golf Club in Adelaide, Australia.

Pieters’ scores factored into the teams score in all three rounds of the most recent LIV event in Orlando, where he finished tied for 16th, his best individual finish of the year following a tie for 32nd in Mayakoba, and a tie for 31st in Tucson.
