ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The Florida men’s golf team defeated 6th seed Ole Miss 4-1 in the SEC Championship Quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals on Saturday.

The victory marks the second straight year the Gators have reached the semifinals. UF will face No. 2 Texas A&M this afternoon at 2 p.m. Last year, Florida defeated Texas A&M 3.5-15 in the same leg. This afternoon’s matches can be seen live on SECN+, starting at 4 p.m.

Matthew Kress continued to step up this week and  secured the match-clinching point for the Orange and Blue as the victory was the second against the Rebels in match play history when Florida won 3-2 in the 2018 quarterfinals. He made a great chip-in birdie from the bunker to win the first hole. Making his postseason debut, he held control through the first nine as he found himself 1-down with five remaining. Kress responded and won three of the next four holes with the match clinching point on eight.

After Ole Miss took the first point in the No. 1 spot, Fred Biondi grabbed the first point for Florida with a 2&1 win. He went back and forth with his matchup trading holes late and tied three times on the final few holes. The senior improved his match play record to 3-0-1 all-time at the SEC Championship.

Right before Kress earned the clinching point, Yuxin Lin gave UF the second point with a 3&2 win. His match featured six consecutive halves  to start before he won the next two holes and never lost the lead. Ricky Castillo was 1 UP on his match with two holes left when Florida won the clinching point and also move his all-time record at the conference tournament to 3-0-1.
