East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s women’s golf team enters the final round of the Big Ten Championships in eighth place among 14 teams after shooting a 10-over 298 in Saturday’s second round at Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh.
The three-day, 54-hole event, being played on the par-71, 6,045-yard course, concludes on Sunday.
Ohio State fired a 3-under par 285 and leads the field at 9-over par 577, just one shot ahead of second-place Illinois (10-over par 578). Northwestern and Maryland are tied for third place (13-over par 581) and Nebraska rounds out the top-five teams (26-over par 594).
The Spartans are in eighth place at 32-over par 600 (302-298), sitting just six shots out of the top-five.
Sophomore Shannon Kennedy leads Michigan State at 2-over par 146 (70-76) and is in a tie for 10th individually.
Sophomore Brooke Biermann had the best round of the day with a 1-over par 73 and is tied for 29th place at 6-over par 150 (77-73).
Classmate Katie Lu posted a 2-over par 74 and is tied for 35th place at 7-over par 151 (77-74).
Juniors Leila Raines and Nina Rissi are tied for 72nd place with scores of 14-over par 158. Raines finished the second round with a 3-over par 75, while Rissi posted an 8-over par 80.
Freshman Paula Balanzategui is tied for 76th place at 15-over par 159.
The Spartans tee off in the final round on Sunday at 8 a.m., playing alongside Penn State and Indiana.
