David Ford and Dylan Menante led the University of North Carolina with three-under-par 69s Sunday but the Tar Heel shot even par as a team for the second straight round and did not advance to match play at the 2023 ACC Men’s Golf Championship at the Country Club of North Carolina.
Georgia Tech finished first in stroke play at 26-under 838, 16 shots clear of Wake Forest (10-under 854). Virginia and Duke tied for third place at 4 under to claim the final two berths in the semifinals.
Sixth-ranked Florida State was fifth at 2 under and the second-ranked and top-seeded Tar Heels were tied with Louisville at 2-over 866.
Carolina shot 290-288-288 over the three rounds, the first two of which were played Friday. The third round began Saturday but was postponed after less than an hour of play due to bad weather. The teams re-started the third round Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m.
Wake Forest’s Michael Brennan won the individual ACC title with a birdie on the third hole of a playoff against Georgia Tech’s Hiroshi Tai. Brennan (66-69-72) and Tai (67-72-68) had tied at 9-under 207 after 54 holes of stroke play.
Menante (72-70-69) tied for seventh place at 5-under 211. Ford (74-72-69) tied for 14th at 1-under 215.
Peter Fountain (73-73-73) tied for 28th at 3-over 219, Ryan Burnett (71-73-78) tied for 40th at 6-over 221 and Austin Greaser (74-78-77) was 58th at 13-over 229.
