East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s women’s golf team shot a 13-over par 297 in the final round and tied for sixth place at the Big Ten Championship, which concluded on Sunday at Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh.
The Spartans had entered the final round in eighth place, but posted their best round of the tournament on Sunday to move up to a tie for sixth at the finish.
Illinois shot a 13-over par 865 to win the tournament, with Northwestern in second place at 16-over par 868, Ohio State in third at 19-over par 871, Maryland in fourth (31-over par 883) and Wisconsin rounded out the top-five teams (38-over par 891).
The Spartans tied for fifth place at 45-over par 898 (302-298-297) with Michigan.
Sophomore Brooke Biermann had her best round of the tournament with a 1-over par 72 and tied for 16th place to lead the Spartans at 9-over par 222 (77-73-72).
Sophomore Shannon Kennedy finished with a 7-over par 78 in the third round and tied for 24th place at 11-over par 224 (70-76-78). Classmate Katie Lu posted a 5-over par 76 on Sunday and tied for 30th place at 14-over par 227 (77-74-76).
Junior Leila Raines posted the team’s best round on Sunday with an even-par 71 and tied for 40th place at 16-over par 229 (83-75-71).
Junior Nina Rissi tied for 71st place at 23-over par 236 (78-80-78) and freshman Paula Balanzategui tied for 80th place at 27-over par 240 (81-78-81)
The Spartans now await the NCAA Regional announcements on Wednesday, April 26 (1 p.m., Golf Channel).
