Hsiao Punches Ticket to U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying

FISHERS, Ind. – Purdue sophomore Kent Hsiao shot a 3-under par 69 to finish second at the Hawthorns Golf and Country Club in Fishers, Indiana, to grab one of five spots available to advance to U.S. Open Sectional qualifying next month.

Hsiao advanced out of a group of 84 players, finishing two shots clear of advancing, as the alternates shot a 71 at Hawthorns.

Hsiao will now play in sectional qualifying on June 5, at one of 10 courses around the country.

The U.S. Open will be played June 15 to 18, at the Los Angeles Country Club.

Hsiao has had a strong sophomore campaign, with a 72.76 stroke average that features eight rounds of even-par or better. He had an outstanding winter, working his way into the lineup and will travel with the team to this weekend’s Big Ten Championships at Galloway National Golf Club in Galloway, New Jersey.
