Rossi Named Second Team All-Big Ten Conference

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State junior women’s golfer Valentina Rossi was named to the All-Big Ten Conference Second Team in a vote of the league’s coaches, it was announced on Wednesday morning.

Rossi was one of two Spartans recognized by the league as sophomore Shannon Kennedy was the recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.

Rossi has appeared in eight tournaments and played in 24 rounds this year and is second on the team in scoring average at 72.54, with three top-20 finishes this year.

Her best finish this season was a tie for 13th place with a 2-under par 214 at The Landfall Tradition in October. She also fired a 6-under par 66 in the second round of the ASU Invitational, the best round of her career and tied for the fifth-lowest in program history.

In November, Rossi won the Women’s Amateur Latin America, becoming the second-straight Spartan to win the event, joining current LPGA Tour player Valery Plata. With the win, Rossie earned exemptions into three majors this year, including the AIG Women’s Open, the Amundi Evian Championship and last week’s Chevron Championship in Texas.

For her career, Rossi has played in 26 events over 77 rounds, carrying a 74.09 scoring average.

Kennedy joined the program last year and has played in seven events this year with a 75.10 scoring average. She had the best finish of her career with a tie for 24th place last week’s Big Ten Championships.

The Spartans have four top-five finishes this year and await the NCAA Regional selections on Wednesday, April 26 (1 p.m.).
