STANFORD, Calif. — The Washington men’s golf team completed rounds one and two at the Pac-12 Championships Friday, finishing the day in third place on the team leaderboard. Taehoon Song was the top performer for the Huskies, posting a 6-under 134, good for a tie for fourth place.

Song compiled eleven birdies through two rounds to open the tournament, helping land the Huskies in a competitive spot to build from as the weekend progresses. Teammates Bo Peng and Petr Hruby are tied for 11th among individuals, and both were fixtures within the top ten for much of the day.

“Taehoon played really well,” said UW coach Alan Murray. “He’s fourth and we have Petr and Bo who are tied for eleventh. We got back-to-back solid rounds from all of them.”

Teddy Lin landed an eagle on 16 to highlight a strong second round, and presently sits in a tie for 22nd among players. Junior Robert Galligan finished behind him, at 40th overall.

“Rob did really well,” said Murray. “He counted in both rounds. He hasn’t played a lot in the lineup this year, and to contribute in two rounds is really impressive.”

Freshman Joshua Koo trailed the rest of the team, finishing 63rd among individuals, and will look to climb back into scoring position tomorrow. The Huskies are within striking distance of the two teams above them after shooting 14-under as a group through the first two rounds, and all efforts will be focused on unseating Arizona State, who fronts the pack.

“This tournament is hard because it’s 6-count-5 and it really tests your depth,” Murray said. “We’re a little bit behind ASU right now. They had a great day, but we’re off to a good start with a lot of golf left to play.”

Round three is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. PT on Saturday, and the Huskies tee off starting at 11:12 a.m. PT.
