STANFORD, Calif. — The Washington men’s golf team finished round three of the Pac-12 Championships in a tie for first place, and was the only team among the top five to score under par Saturday.

Washington made serious headway from its position following yesterday’s rounds, at which point the team sat ten strokes behind the likes of Arizona State, who led the field after Friday’s play ended. The Huskies were briefly alone at the top towards the end of round three, though finished the day tying for first place with Colorado.

The teams faced embattled conditions on a course that had become more challenging since yesterday’s opening rounds, but the Huskies rose to the occasion, and played their way into the lead.

“Our guys were good today,” said UW coach Alan Murray. “The course was obviously getting tougher. The fairways were bouncier and the rough was longer. It’s a true championship test.”

Teddy Lin and Bo Peng finished highest on the individual leaderboard for the Huskies, and the two are tied for 9th overall through three rounds. Teddy Lin made a jump of 13 spots from yesterday’s placement, the second-biggest leap of any player in the tournament Saturday.

“It was a really good performance from our guys, especially Teddy,” said Murray. “Obviously, Bo had a really good back nine. “

Petr Hruby finished the day in 13th place, and at one point climbed as high as third overall. Tied with Hruby is Husky teammate Taehoon Song, who leads the tournament with 16 birdies so far.

“We got a great birdie from Taehoon on the last hole to get back tied for the lead,” said Murray.

Freshman Joshua Koo is next for UW, in a tie for 57th among players. Rounding out the Washington lineup is Robert Galligan, who is tied for 64th place.

With the fourth and final round is set to begin tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. PT, the Huskies have put themselves in a strong position to capture the conference title for the second straight year.

“Any good player just wants to have a chance to win going into the final day, and that’s what we have,” said Murray. “I can’t wait to get back out there tomorrow. It’s going to be a fun, crazy day.”
