ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Five University of Michigan varsity athletic teams achieved perfect multiyear scores in the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) data released by the NCAA national office Tuesday (May 2) as part of the annual NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program.

The data for all schools includes the most current multiyear cohort (2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic years).

All 27 Michigan teams included in the report scored well above the threshold required by the NCAA for good standing, highlighted by the five with perfect multiyear scores of 1,000: men’s golf, women’s basketball, women’s gymnastics, softball and women’s tennis.

Michigan is one of 35 schools from the Bowl Subdivision to earn a multiyear score of 985 or greater in the sport of football.

In addition to the perfect multiyear scores, 18 U-M athletic teams recorded perfect scores for the 2021-22 academic year.

The APR is a real-time measure of a team’s academic performance and is calculated by reviewing variables such as eligibility, retention and graduation rates of student-athletes competing on every Division I sports team.

The minimum APR academic standard for each team is 930. Typically, teams that scored below the benchmark would have to face penalties that encourage an emphasis and prioritization on academics. However, due to the current penalty suspension in place, teams falling below the minimum 930 score will not be subjected to penalties this year. Normal Academic Performance Program operations with program penalties and loss of access to postseason competition will resume in spring 2024. This will also include the public recognition of high-performing teams.

Following are the University of Michigan APR multiyear and 2021-22 scores by sport:
