East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State men’s golfer Drew Hackett was selected to the All-Big Ten Second Team in a vote of the league’s coaches, announced on Wednesday morning.
A senior, Hackett is in his first year in East Lansing after spending the first three years of his career at UNC Wilmington.
Hackett has played in all 11 events for the Spartans and leads the team in scoring average at 71.97 and is tied for the team lead in rounds played (32). He has had more than 85 percent of his round count toward the team total during the season, with two top-5 finishes, four among the top-10 and five among the top-20.
Hackett was the team’s top finisher in five events this year, including a career-best tie for second place at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational in October when he fired a 16-under par 200 (67-69-64). Hackett’s score of 200 was the best 54-hole score in MSU history, topping the mark of 201 set by Donnie Trosper at the NCAA Pullman Regional in 2019. Hackett’s 64 in the final round tied the best single round in program history, set twice by current PGA professional Ryan Brehm (2007 Fighting Irish Invitational, 2006 Big Ten Championships).
He also finished in fourth place at The Williams Cup to close out the fall season, shooting an even-par 216 (70-75-71).
During the spring, he posted a pair of top finishes, tying for 18th place at the Johnnie-O at Sea Island in March with a 3-over par 213 (72-72-69) and then tying for ninth place at the Illini Spring Invite with a 5-over par 218 (75-75-68), keying a third-place team finish.
Fifth year Troy Taylor was MSU’s recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
