Darling Named First Team All-SEC – University of South Carolina Athletics

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sophomore All-American Hannah Darling was named First Team All-SEC for the second consecutive season, the league office announced Thursday part of its annual golf awards. She becomes the seventh player in program history to earn First Team All-SEC honors on multiple occasions.

The Midlothian, Scotland, native joined All-American Pauline Roussin-Bouchard last season as the only freshman in program history to be named First Team All-SEC.

Darling, who is ranked 13th in the latest Golfstat Player Rankings, leads the team with a 72.13 scoring average this season. In eight stroke play starts, Darling has six top-20 finishes, five top-10s and a trio of top-fives, which leads the team in each category. Her 11 rounds of par or better in 23 rounds played also leads the Gamecocks this season.

Freshman Mia Sandtorv Lussand earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman squad. She marks the 13th player under head coach Kalen Anderson to be named SEC All-Freshman. The Gamecocks have had at least one representative on the SEC All-Freshman Team for five straight seasons.

Sandtorv Lussand, who hails from Bergen, Norway, led the team at the SEC Championship (April 12-14) with a T-10th finish at 3-over (219) for the tournament. She went 2-0 in matches at Greystone as well with a 4&3 victory over Auburn’s Anna Foster in the quarterfinals and a 1-up win in 22 holes over Texas A&M’s Adela Cernousek in the semis. Her 74.55 scoring average is eighth-best amongst freshmen in the SEC.

Junior transfer Sophia Burnett was named to the SEC Community Service Team. Burnett led the team in community service hours her first season in Garnet & Black. The Hilton Head Island, S.C., native visited Richland 2 elementary schools in the fall to read to classrooms. She helped donate items for the Gamecock Pantry and assembled bikes for the Wildewood Bike Club. Burnett also helped create handwritten Valentine’s Day cards for patients at Prisma Health.

The No. 4 Gamecocks head to Athens for NCAA Regionals next week. Carolina is the top seed in the 12-team regional site. First round action gets underway Monday and the top-five teams will advance to the NCAA Championship, May 19-24, at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
