Javier Barcos Named to All-Pac-12 Second-Team

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Utah junior golfer Javier Barcos has earned a spot on the All-Pac-12 Second-Team, it was announced on Thursday, when the conference released its annual postseason awards.

This recognition comes after a 2022-23 campaign in which Barcos’ posted a pair of top five finishes, including his first tournament victory, crafted a team-best stroke average of 71.4 and was responsible for the second-highest finish ever by a Ute at the Pac-12 Championships.

The junior from Spain collected his first top 10 finish of the year at the Hamptons Intercollegiate in October, then put together a phenomenal performance a week later at the Oregon State Invitational, going 4-under in round one, then shooting a 1-under 70 on the last day to regain first place and capture his first win as a Ute.

Barcos put together another impressive showing to tie for 10th at the Desert Intercollegiate in March, but he was even better when the Pac-12 Championships arrived at the end of April. His third-round 64 matched the team’s best score of the season and Barcos would finish the competition at 8-under to take fourth, ahead of 11 players ranked in the top 100 nationally. That also goes into the record books as the second-highest finish ever by a Utah golfer at the Pac-12 Championships.

This honor comes after Barcos was recognized by the conference in 2021 with a spot on the all-newcomer team and it makes Barcos only the second Ute to be recognized multiple times since the program joined the Pac-12. Blake Tomlinson was an all-conference pick in 2021 and 2022, in addition to landing on the all-freshman roster in 2018.
