Zheng is the first Golden Bear selected to the All-Pac-12 First Team since Collin Morikawa and Sebastian Crampton in 2019. The junior anchored the Cal’s lineup all season with a stroke average of 69.60 over 28 rounds and nine events played. Zheng earned five top-10 individual finishes this season, including co-medalist honors at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in February when his 18-under par score set a program record and tied the third-lowest under-par score in Pac-12 history. He collected runner-up honors at the Alister Mackenzie Invitational in the fall and back-to-back fifth-place efforts at The Goodwin and Western Intercollegiate, followed by a 10th-place finish at Pac-12s this spring.
Zheng, who will enter the NCAA Morgan Hill Regional on May 15 at 41-under par for the season, was also selected to the Arnold Palmer Cup international team as an automatic qualifier in April. He’ll play in the event in June.
Wang, who hails from Fremont, played in nine of Cal’s 11 stroke-play events in his first season as a Bear and owned a 72.25 stroke average. The freshman finished inside the top 20 individually in four tournaments, including an impressive tie for sixth in his second collegiate tournament at the Alister Mackenzie Invitational. Wang’s single-round collegiate low was 3-under 67 in the second round of the Western Intercollegiate, and was one of four rounds in the 60s for the rookie this season.
Zheng, Wang and the Bears have more golf to play this season, as they earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Morgan Hill Regional on May 15-17. The 54-hole regional will be played at The Institute Golf Club, located outside of San Jose.
