Big Ten Champion Illini Set for NCAA San Antonio Regional


CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini women’s golf is set to compete in the NCAA San Antonio Regional at TPC San Antonio. The three-day tournament will be played on Monday, May 8, through Wednesday, May 10. Illinois will be the No. 9 seed among the 12-team field.

THE SETTING

The NCAA San Antonio will be played at TPC San Antonio on the Oaks Course. The course was designed by architects Greg Norman and Tad Burnett and opened in 2010. The course will be set up for a par 72 and will play 6,342 yards long.  

CHAMPIONSHIPS FORMAT

Six regional tournaments will be conducted May 8-10 to determine the championships field. A total of 72 teams and 36 individual participants have been selected for regional competition. Of the 396 players participating in the regionals, 156 will advance to the championship finals, with the top five teams and top individual (not on an advancing team) advancing from each regional.

There will be 12 teams competing at each of the six regional tournaments with 18 holes contested on each day of competition. 

The NCAA Women’s Golf National Championships will be May 19-24 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., and hosted by Arizona State and The Thunderbirds. The final three days of the championships will be televised live by the GOLF Channel.

ILLINI AT NCAA REGIONALS

This is the third-consecutive NCAA Regional appearance and 10th overall in program history. The Illini posted a ninth place finish at the 2022 NCAA Tallahassee Regional a season ago. The Illini have advanced to the NCAA Championships once in program history, registering a ninth place at the 2019 NCAA Championships.
