PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – The Alabama women’s golf team finished play in the opening round of the 2023 NCAA Palm Beach Gardens Regional Monday, closing the day in seventh overall with a team score of 7-over par 299.
Three Crimson Tide golfers ended day one among the top 25 individuals. Benedetta Moresco leads the way after she carded a 1-over par 73 and is in a tie for 11th, following Sarah Edwards (74) who is in a tie for 16th and Emilie Øverås (75) a shot back in 25th overall.
The Crimson Tide will enter Tuesday’s second round just one shot back of fourth place, with only a difference of four strokes separating second through ninth place.
The top five teams and the low individual not on an advancing team from each of the six regional sites moving on to the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships hosted by Arizona State University in Scottsdale, Ariz. at the Grayhawk Golf Club, from May 19-24.
The second round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament, which is being held on the par 72, 6,102-yard PGA National Resort Champions Course, can be followed live throughout on Golfstat.com.
Individual Highlights
- Benedetta Moresco ended the day with a birdie and two bogeys to result in her round of 1-over par 73
- Moresco topped the Crimson Tide on par 3 (+1, 3.25) and par 4 (+1, 4.10) scoring
- Sarah Edwards led the team on par 5 scoring (-2, 4.50) on her way to carding a round of 2-over par 74, which included a birdie on the final hole of the day
- Emilie Øverås used back-to-back birdies on Nos. 9 and 10 to get to even par, but a string of three consecutive bogeys resulted in her 3-over par 75 on day one
- Taylor Kehoe is tied for 34th after shooting a 5-over 77 and matched Edwards for the team lead on par 5 holes (-2, 4.50)
- Isabella van der Biest rounded out the Crimson Tide golfers with a 79 to place her in a tie for 53rd overall
Team Highlights
- Behind Sarah Edwards and Taylor Kehoe, the Crimson Tide finished the round tied for first in the 12-team field on par 5 scoring average (-6, 4.70)
