PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington’s Camille Boyd finished the second round of the NCAA Pullman Regional in position to earn a berth in the national championships as she heads into the third and final round on Wednesday at Palouse Ridge Golf Club.

Boyd finished her second round with a 3-under 69. Coupled with her opening-round score of 66, she’s alone in fourth place overall at 9-under for the tournament.

Boyd, along with UW teammate Stefanie Deng, is one of six individuals playing at the regional, which also includes 12 teams. The top-five teams, as well as the low individual NOT on one of those five teams, earn a berth to the NCAA Championships later this month.

At the end of Tuesday’s round, Boyd was in that position, as all three golfers ahead of her (two from Stanford and one from Texas Tech) are on the teams that currently place first and second on the team leaderboard. Boyd heads into the third round one stroke ahead of UC Riverside’s Tiffany Le, who is also playing as an individual.

“There were much tougher conditions today,” said UW head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. “It was cold and windy all day. Both of them hung in there and we are proud of their efforts.”

On Tuesday, Boyd’s scorecard included just one bogey, alongside four birdies.

Deng, who fired a 3-under 69 in Monday’s opening round, shot a 1-over 73 on Tuesday. At 2-under for the tournament, she’s tied for 19th place after two rounds. She played the first nine one-under par, but then carded four bogies and two birdies on the back nine.

Boyd and Deng will tee off for their final round Wednesday at 8:55 a.m. PT.
