WESTFIELD, Ind. — Despite a pair of 71s (-1) by senior Hailey Borja and junior Monet Chun, the 44th-ranked University of Michigan women’s golf team closed the second day of the NCAA Westfield Regional on Tuesday (May 9) posting a 294 team total, falling into eighth place (577, +1) at the Club at Chatham Hills.
After posting a 283 (-5) opening tally Monday (May 8), the Wolverines headed to the first tee playing with first-day leader No. 26 Tulsa and No. 5 Mississippi State. U-M got off to another solid start, etching six birdies and an eagle on the front-side scorecard to make the turn at two-under par. Sitting at seven-under, the Maize and Blue maintained a top-five position.
Heading the back nine, the Wolverines recorded five additional birdies, but missed opportunities added up as the Maize and Blue closed with a 294 team total, slipping to the eighth spot with a 577 (+1) 36-hole total. With 18 holes left, the Wolverines sit six shots back from an advancing spot to the NCAA Finals.
