Tar Heel freshman Megan Streicher is 5 under par after Tuesday’s second-round 71 and freshman Inez Ng shot even par for the second straight day at the NCAA Pullman Regional at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Washington.

The Tar Heels are 11th in the 12-team regional at 13-over 589. The top five teams after Wednesday’s third and final round advance to the NCAA Championship in Scottsdale, Ariz., later this month.

Top-ranked Stanford leads at 35-under 541. Texas Tech is second (-17), Clemson is third (-15), Southern California is fourth (-13), Baylor is fifth (-12) and Sacramento State is sixth (-8). Stanford and Clemson had the best rounds of the day at 14 under and 12 under par, respectively.

Senior Kayla Smith, Carolina’s all-time and single-season leader in stroke average and a two-time All-ACC honoree, was forced to withdraw midway through the second round due to a wrist injury. Sophomore Riley Quartermain will replace Smith in the lineup for the final round.

Streicher, who opened with a 68 on Monday, led UNC with a 1-under-par 71 today and is tied for 13th place after 36 holes.

For the second consecutive round Ng made a team-high five birdies en route to an even-par 72. Ng is tied for 34th place at 144.

Crista Izuzquiza (75-77) is 8 over and Natalia Aseguinolaza (76-78) is 10 over par.

Stanford’s Rose Zhang (64-68) has the individual lead at 12-under 132, a stroke ahead of Texas Tech’s Shannon Tan.

Streicher is four strokes behind Washington’s Camille Boyd, who is currently in the lead among players not on one of the top five teams. That individual also qualifies to advance to the NCAA Championship. Streicher heads to the final round in fifth place among players not on teams in the top five.
