Sophomore Xin (Cindy) Kou and freshman Catherine Park each carded even rounds while the entire USC lineup remains under par as the Trojans finished the second round of the NCAA Pullman Regional in fourth place at Palouse Ridge G.C. in Pullman, Wash., on Tuesday (May 9).
USC, a day after going a collective 16-under, finished 3-over in the second round and closed 36 holes in fourth at 13-under 563 (272-291).
Stanford leads the region at 35-under while Texas Tech is second at 17-under, Clemson third at 15-under and Baylor fifth at 12-under.
The Trojans are currently five clear of sixth-place Sacramento State (8-under).
USC needs a top five finish to advance to the NCAA Championships final for the 25th second consecutive time and advance to Grayhawk G.C. in Scottsdale, Ariz., for nationals.
Park, a day after her 66, is tied for ninth at 6-under 138 (66-72), a pair of back 9 birdies helping her square her round. Senior Malia Nam is tied for 18th at 2-under 140 (68-74) after also posting two birdies today.
Kou (71-72), sophomore Amari Avery (68-75) and junior Christine Wang (70-73) are all tied for 24th at 1-under 143.
Kou’s second birdie of the day on 17 helped her secure her par round today. Wang was 3-under at one point before giving up some ground, a double bogey on 18 costing her third straight sub par effort.
USC will tee off with Baylor and Sacramento State beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday in the final round.
