LOS ANGELES – Patrick Murphy has resigned after three seasons as assistant coach on the UCLA men’s golf team to pursue opportunities outside of coaching.

Murphy competed for the Bruins from 2015-2019 prior to taking on his role as assistant coach. He spent his first two seasons as an assistant under former UCLA head coach Derek Freeman prior to continuing his role under UCLA first-year head coach Armen Kirakossian.

“It has been an honor to coach at my alma mater over the last three of years,” Murphy said. “Working with our talented and passionate student-athletes was a dream come true for me, and I will forever be grateful for my time at UCLA.  I want to thank Head Coach Armen Kirakossian for an amazing year. The program is headed in a fantastic direction, and I could not be happier knowing you are leading the way. I also would like to thank Associate Athletic Director Chris Carlson and former Head Coach Derek Freeman for the opportunity to begin coaching at UCLA. The athletic department and all the Bruins who made my time special here are family to me. I am excited to see what this program will accomplish in the future, and I will remain a Bruin for life.”

As a student-athlete, Murphy posted four top 10 finishes and a 74.2 scoring average over 102 rounds and 35 career events.

“I did not know Coach Murphy much until I came to UCLA, but we quickly hit it off and became good friends,” Kirakossian said. “He helped me immensely in my transition to UCLA. A Bruin through and through, first as a player then as a coach, Patrick has spent the last seven years of his life representing the Blue and Gold. He will be greatly missed and has made a lasting impact on this program. We wish him the best as he pursues other opportunities outside of coaching. Patrick is a Bruin for life!”
