Two Alabama Men’s Golfers Earn All-SEC Honors


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama’s Nick Dunlap has been named to the All-Southeastern Conference First Team and All-Freshman Team, the league announced Thursday. In addition to Dunlap’s recognition, Canon Claycomb was tabbed Second Team All-SEC and was the team’s representative on the SEC Community Service Team.

This marks the first all-conference honors for Dunlap, while Claycomb earns league recognition for the second time in his four-year career (All-Freshman).

Nick Dunlap, First Team All-SEC and All-Freshman

  • Enters NCAA Regional play ranked No. 25 in the nation, according to Golfweek individual player rankings
  • Leads Alabama in average strokes per round (70.53), average vs. par (-0.87) and rounds in the 60s (14)
  • Earned first medalist honors of career at the Linger Longer Invitational with a 10-under 206 (70-66-70) and led Alabama to its second team title of the season
  • Named SEC Freshman of the Week twice this season (February 22, 2023 and March 22, 2023)
  • Has collected eight top-20 finishes across ten tournaments this year, along with the best 54-hole score (201) and the second-highest rounds of par or better (21)
  • One of only three players to have played in all ten events of the year and the only player to have all rounds counted towards the team score

Canon Claycomb, Second Team All-SEC and SEC Community Service Team

  • Ranked No. 41 in the nation, according to Golfweek individual player rankings heading into NCAA Regional play
  • Leads the team with 22 rounds of par or lower
  • Carded the second-best average strokes per round (70.77), average vs. par (-0.53) and number of rounds in 60s (12)
  • Started the season off by earning second medalist honors of career at the Rod Myers Invitational with an 11-under 205 (69-71-65) and leading the team to a title in the event
  • Collected six top-20 finishes across ten tournaments this year, along with the second-best 54-hole score (204)
  • Has raised over $300,000 as the founder and director of the Mason Cup – a non-profit charity golf tournament to raise money for the Mason Goodnight Foundation

    • Proceeds of the event go to the Boys and Girls Club of Franklin, Ky., in remembrance of Bowling Green native Mason Goodnight

  • A member of the Alabama Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC)
