Men's Golf Begins NCAA Postseason at Morgan Hill Regional

MORGAN HILL, Calif. – One year after claiming an NCAA Regional championship and qualifying for NCAA Championships, No. 18 Arizona Men’s Golf will look to repeat its postseason success in the Bay Area this week. The fourth seed in the NCAA Morgan Hill Regional, the Wildcats will face a litany of fellow top-25 ranked programs at The Institute Golf Club with the 13-team field teeing off on Monday, May 15. The Bay Area is a region that the program knows quite well with plenty of recent history.

“Our team is excited to compete in an elite postseason environment in a part of the country we know well,” said head coach Jim Anderson. “NCAA Regionals is the time of the season that we have practiced and worked for all season long for. Our goals for this season have been to compete for conference and national championships, and this week will be paramount in that pursuit. We have a ton of familiarity with the type of golf in that area, and we are all eager to tee it up and let it rip.”

Being selected to the NCAA Morgan Hill Regional will bring the Wildcats to an area of the country that they know well. The team played in the Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz and the Pac-12 Championships at Stanford already this season in the Bay Area. In addition to those trips to the Bay Area for tournaments this season, Arizona has a storied history in the area. The Wildcats won the 2021 Pac-12 Championships at Mayacama Golf Club on the other side of the San Francisco Bay. The Arizona Men’s Golf roster also boasts four players from the cities of Rocklin, Sacramento and Oakdale, which are all within 150 miles of the NCAA Morgan Hill Regional.

The Wildcat lineup for the week will feature Chase Sienkiewicz, Sam Sommerhauser, Tiger Christensen, Filip Jakubcik and Zach Pollo. Sienkiewicz and Sommerhauser, both upperclassmen, were a part of Arizona’s regional championship team in Bryan, Texas last season.

The field of the NCAA Morgan Hill Regional consists of 13 teams with four of them being conference champions. Arizona has a combined head-to-head record of 13-8-2 against those teams. The complete field, in order of seed, is Pepperdine, Florida State, Mississippi State, Louisville, Baylor, Missouri, BYU, NC State, California, Charlotte, Grand Canyon and North Florida.
