Yanagi completes day one at the NCAA Morgan Hill Regional


MORGAN HILL, Calif. (May 15, 2023) – Washington State men’s golf senior Pono Yanagi concluded the first round of the 2023 NCAA Morgan Hill Regional by carding 2-over 74 to end the day in a tie for 45th on the player leaderboard.

Yanagi, who is the first Coug to play in an NCAA Regional in a decade, opened the 2023 NCAA Morgan Hill Regional by collecting a birdie on the first hole. The senior from Hilo, Hawai’i added another birdie on hole 11 and shot par on 12 holes to end the first round at 2-over 74.

The senior will open the second round of the 2023 NCAA Morgan Hill Region in a tie for 45th on the player leaderboard. Yanagi gets the second round of the NCAA Regional started this Tuesday, May 16, at 9:31 a.m. PT.

Missouri’s Alfons Bondesson leads the field at the NCAA Morgan Hill Regional after 18 holes of play at The Institute, as he sits at 5-under 67. No. 18-ranked Mississippi State holds a five-stroke lead over No. 7 Florida State going into the second round after the Bulldogs shot 12-under 276 as a team in the first round.

The second round of the 2023 NCAA Morgan Hill Regional will tee off this Tuesday between 7:30-10:04 a.m. PT. Fans can follow all of the action via live results at GolfStat.com.
