Men’s Golf Remains in Second at NCAA Regional

MORGAN HILL, Calif. – An unforgiving second round at the Institute Golf Club had all 13 teams scrambling to the finish line, but the second-seeded Florida State Men’s Golf team managed to hold up just fine on Tuesday afternoon. The Seminoles shot 8-over in their second round and are 1-over for the tournament, just three shots off the lead in second place.

Mississippi State remains in first place at 2-under, while the Seminoles sit nearby in second place (+1). Baylor is not far off in third place at 3-over, followed by Pepperdine (+6) and BYU (+8) to round out the Top 5.

Freshman Luke Clanton is tied atop the player leaderboard at 4-under (70-70), shooting 2-under for the second straight round. Clanton is tied with NC State’s Maximilian Steinlechner.

The Hialeah, Fla., native was one of five golfers to shoot under par on Tuesday, with all 13 teams shooting above par for the day. Baylor carded the best score of any team in the second round at 6-over.

Clanton’s round included three birdies and one bogey along with 14 pars in what was one of the steadier performances of the day. His eight total birdies through the first two rounds is tied for the second most in the field, while his 1-under total on the par 3 holes makes him one of six golfers shooting under par on the short holes.

Aiding the Seminoles greatly on Tuesday was redshirt junior Cole Anderson, who went even par and is tied for 13th overall at 1-over (73-72). Anderson’s round was punctuated by two birdies on his front nine.

Brett Roberts (+4), Frederik Kjettrup (+1) and Jack Bigham (+5) each recorded 77s in the second round.

Bigham tees off the final round for the Seminoles on Wednesday beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET/7:30 a.m. PT. A Top-5 finish at the NCAA Morgan Hill Regional would mean FSU clinches its third consecutive trip to the NCAA Finals next week in Scottsdale, Ariz.
