MORGAN HILL, Calif. Javier Barcos collected four birdies but ended up sliding three spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 22nd on Tuesday during the second round of the NCAA’s Morgan Hill Regional, which is being held at The Institute golf course.

“Today was a really tough day!” said head coach Garrett Clegg. “The wind was blowing and the pins were in tough places. Javi had two really bad swings that cost him six strokes. It’s unfortunate because other than those holes he played some really good golf today. Hopefully tomorrow he can put a good round together!”

Those two bad swings for Barcos came on the par-3 eighth and the par-3 13th, but other than those two missteps, the junior from Estella, Spain was 2-under for the day. He had a difficult time on the front nine, but quickly found his form after the turn, birdieing the 10th and 12th. After having a tough go on the 13th, Barcos bounced back with two more birdies over the next three holes and finished even on the back-nine and 4-over for the day. Barcos is 3-over for the tournament and four shots behind the leading individual, Riley Lewis of Loyola Marymount.
