Utah Golf’s Barcos Caps Fantastic Season with 41st-place finish at NCAA Regionals

MORGAN HILL, Calif. Javier Barcos’ final round of golf for the University of Utah men’s golf team in 2022-23 was highlighted by a pair of eagles as he finished the Morgan Hill Regional tied for 41st on Wednesday at The Institute golf course.

“Javi’s season as a whole was good,” said head coach Garrett Clegg. “He grew a lot this year and is a great leader. He is prepared to have an incredible senior season and lead us back to the NCAA championship finals. Today was not a good day. He just seemed to be really out of sorts all day. Overall though, it was a good year for him and he is hungry to come back even better.”

Barcos had a roller-coaster start to his round, registering four bogeys, two birdies and an eagle on the par-4 ninth to finish the opening half of his day at even. Unfortunately for the junior, he had a difficult time on the back nine before logging his second eagle of the afternoon on the par-4 16th. He finished the day with a pair or pars for a mark of 5-over that put him 8-over for the tournament.

Barcos, who was a Second-Team All-Pac-12 selection, finishes his junior campaign with a team-best stroke average of 71.7, making it three straight seasons in which he’s posted an average under 72. He finished under par in five different tournaments and added two top five finishes, including a tournament victory to his list of accomplishments, giving him four top five finishes in his Utah career so far.
