Vols’ Season Comes to a Close in NCAA Regionals

AUBURN, Ala. – Tennessee men’s golf’s season came to a close Wednesday, as the Vols finished eighth at the Auburn NCAA Regional.

Tennessee’s 2022-23 season—highlighted by three team tournament titles and a first-place finish in stroke play at the SEC Championship last month—featured six top-two team finishes, which stands as the second-most in a single season in program history.

The Vols also recorded four individual titles over the course of the season—two from Caleb Surratt and one apiece from Bryce Lewis and Jake Hall—and 14 individual top-10 finishes.

Tennessee shot 6-over as a team during round three to finish at 25-over for the tournament.

Surratt was the Vols’ top finisher—capping off his week with a 2-under round on Wednesday to finish even par through three rounds and tie for 10th place. It marked his seventh top-10 individual finish during his freshman season on Rocky Top.

Wednesday’s round also gave Surratt his 27th round of par or better on the season—a single-season program record.

Lewis gave Tennessee its second-best round of the day on Wednesday and was the Vols’ second-highest finisher—shooting even par during round three and finishing tied for 28th place.

Redshirt freshman Lance Simpson’s 3-over 75 was the Vols’ third-best round of the day on Wednesday. Simpson finished with a three-round total of 12-over and tied for 47th place.

Laurent Desmarchais and Jake Hall each shot 5-over on Wednesday. Desmarchais finished tied for 43rd place at 11-over, while Hall was 15-over for the week and finished tied for 59th.
