MGM RESORTS IS MAKING BOLD SUSTAINABILITY COMMITMENTS

MGM Resorts is once again pleased to host the Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play at Shadow Creek. On the golf course and throughout its operations, MGM Resorts is committed to creating a more environmentally sustainable future. In the desert destination of Las Vegas and around the world, access to water is a universal concern.  At MGM Resorts, this concern has translated into research and discovery, strengthening of existing commitments and implementation of a new commitment to become a corporate steward of water.

“Extreme drought and climate change continue to contribute to water stress and scarcity in certain parts of the country,” said Bill Hornbuckle, President and CEO of MGM Resorts. “As a major operator of resorts dependent upon water supply, we have long been committed to doing our part to address global water challenges, mitigate risk and advance water stewardship.”

MGM Resorts’ longstanding commitment to water conservation includes:

1. Installation of low flow fixtures
2. Replacement of more than 200,000 square feet of grass with drought-tolerant landscaping
3. Between 2007 and 2021, the company saved more than 5.6 billion gallons of water through water efficient practices.
4. At Shadow Creek, drip irrigation was placed on all trees to limit overhead irrigation sprinkler usage, reducing water usage in low-maintenance areas by up to 30 percent; soil surfactants help to retain water in the soil; soil sensors monitor soil moisture levels to provide only what is required for plant sustainability, further reducing water use; weather stations provide real-time weather data for the golf course, ensuring smart, data-based water requirement decisions; and daily hand-watering to further minimize water consumption.

With MGM Resorts expanding into water stewardship, new initiatives include:

1. Implementation of a new Global Water Policy that mandates ambition and guides behavior
2. Special accreditation to attend the UN Water Conference in March 2023-one of only a handful of hospitality companies represented
3. Endorsement of the CEO Water Mandate, one of the world’s most ambitious platforms for corporate water leadership. MGM Resorts was the first gaming and Las Vegas-based company to endorse the mandate.
4. In 2022, MGM Resorts was one of 57 companies to achieve a double-A rating from CDP on climate change and water security out of nearly 15,000 scored.
