Lopez Ramirez Named WGCA First Team All-American

STARKVILLEMississippi State women’s golf standout, Julia Lopez Ramirez, has been named a First Team All-American by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA), the organization announced Friday. The WGCA announced first, second and honorable mention teams, with a total of 50 student-athletes earning the prestigious recognition.

This is the second straight season that Lopez Ramirez has been honored by the WGCA after being named a WGCA Honorable Mention All-American following the 2021-22 season. With her First Team All-American honor, Lopez-Ramirez becomes the first Bulldog since 2014 to earn first team honors and just the third Bulldog all-time to be named to the WGCA First Team, joining Ally McDonald Ewing and Carri Wood.

Lopez Ramirez has had a standout sophomore campaign in the Maroon and White. She was recently named one of three finalists for the Annika Award, given annually to the nation’s best female collegiate golfer.

On her way to earning her spot amongst the world’s best amateurs, Lopez Ramirez was named the SEC Golfer of the Year, becoming the first Bulldog to earn that award. She was also named a First Team All-SEC selection for the second consecutive season after finishing the regular season with a scoring average of 70.31, the lowest in Mississippi State history and the second lowest in collegiate golf this season.

During the 2022-23 season, Lopez Ramirez won three individual titles while placing inside the top five in nine tournaments, all while being named the SEC Golfer of the Week three times. This past season, her two biggest individual titles came when she won the SEC Championship and the NCAA Westfield Regional individual crown. Lopez Ramirez became the first Bulldog to win the SEC Individual Championship and the second to win an individual region title, joining Ally McDonald Ewing, who did it in 2013.

At the NCAA Championship in Scottsdale, Ariz., Lopez Ramirez finished 13th after shooting a 4-under par 284 in the four rounds of match play. Her 13th-place finish was the third-best finish at the national championship in program history.
