Card Makes Cut, Jumps to Sixth


SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Rising up the table after three rounds of competition at the NCAA Championships, Stanford men’s golf scored a six-under par round of 274 strokes to end the day in sixth place overall (+10). Four Stanford golfers finished at par or better, combining for the third best round of the championships and the second best of the third round.

Barclay Brown continued his strong tournament with a three-under par 67, leaving him in third place with 18 holes to go. Brown trails Georgia Tech’s Ross Steelman by five strokes entering the final round of stroke play. The South Yorkshire, England native tallied four birdies on the morning.

Michael Thorbjornsen rebounded for a third round 68, ending with four birdies, while Ethan Ng had a team-leading five birdies en route to a one-under 69. Karl Vilips had one birdie and finished at even par, slotting in the top-20 on the player leaderboard through 54 holes. Nate Menon carded a 74 for the second consecutive day.

The top 15 teams survived the first cut to participate in Monday’s fourth round, while the top eight will advance to match play. The Cardinal will tee off from the first hole beginning at 10:55 a.m. in the final round.
