Viktor Hovland steals 2023 Memorial Tournament for fourth PGA Tour win

Designated events continue to deliver for the PGA Tour. Who knew getting the best players together more often would produce such great golf?

Thirteen players were within two shots of the three-way tie for the lead entering the final round at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio on Sunday, but it was Viktor Hovland who emerged victorious after a one-hole playoff against Denny McCarthy. The win is Hovland’s fourth on the PGA Tour and first since his title defense at the 2021 World Wide Technology Championship. Hovland recently finished T-2 at the PGA Championship and T-3 earlier this season at the Players Championship, and across 15 events has 11 top-25 finishes, six inside the top 10.

The 25-year-old started the day one shot behind Rory McIlroy, Si Woo Kim and David Lipsky but a late birdie brought him to 7 under, just one shot behind McCarthy, who went on to make his first bogey of the day on the 18th hole. Scottie Scheffler earned a signature Muirfield Village milkshake with a third-place finish at 6 under thanks to the low round of the day, a 5-under 67 that featured just one bogey on his penultimate hole. Kim (73) made birdie on his final hole to finish solo fourth at 5 under, with Andrew Putnam (70) and Jordan Spieth (71) T-5 at 4 under.
