The Ladies European Tour (LET) is well into its summer run with the return of the Amundi German Masters.
In its second year, last year’s tournament saw Sweden’s Maja Stark take top honours and the Tour is back at Golf & Country Club Seddiner See for the 2023 edition.
Here are some talking points ahead of the tournament…
Confidence boost for Van Dam and Cowley
It was a good week for Dutch star Anne Van Dam and England’s Gabriella Cowley at last week’s Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed – a co-sanctioned event with the DP World Tour.
The duo had excellent weekends carding rounds of 63 (-9) and 64 (-8), respectively on Saturday with both producing a 69 (-3) on the final day to ensure they finished in the top five.
And the pair will be hoping to carry that form into this week as they get ready to tee it up at the Amundi German Masters.
Home favourites out in force
No fewer than 15 Germans will be competing on home soil as they try to win their home tournament – the Amundi German Masters.
Leonie Harm finished as top German in 2022 when she was runner-up behind Maja Stark, while Olivia Cowan was just a couple of shots further back after a good weekend.
They are also joined this year by Alexandra Försterling, who is local to Berlin, as well as LET winners Chiara Noja and Patricia Isabel Schmidt.
Chance to be Race to Costa del Sol number one
The battle to finish at the top of the 2023 Race to Costa del Sol continues this week with six of the top 10 teeing it up in Germany.
Spain’s Ana Peláez Trivino sits only 50 points behind leader Aditi Ashok and will be hoping for a good result to become the new number, but she is not the only player vying for that spot.
Czechia’s Klara Davidson Spilkova, who recorded a 10th place finish here in 2022, is in fourth in the Race to Costa del Sol and could also overtake Ashok by finishing in first or second.
Schmidt still leads Rookie race
The season-long LET Rookie of the Year competition is also heating up with Germany’s Patricia Isabel Schmidt still out in front after her maiden victory at the Belgian Ladies Open.
The 27-year-old has 565.68 points with Thailand’s April Angurasaranee in second with 518.83 and Italy’s Alessandra Fanali in third place.
With 26 rookies in the field, there is potential for someone to make a move in the standings by the end of this week.
