After a testing week for our rookies at the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed, the Ladies European Tour (LET) moved to Berlin for the twelfth event of the season at the Amundi German Masters.
With the European swing now well underway, a host of first year graduates were in action at Golf & Country Club Seddiner See including recent winner and home favourite Patricia Isabel Schmidt.
On a low scoring first day, Switzerland’s Tiffany Arafi and Italy’s Clara Manzalini started brightest with the pair both posting 69s (-3) to sit inside the top 10.
Day two then brought some showers but the rookies shone bright with a total of 15 making the cut in Berlin – the highest total so far in the 2023 season.
Soaring up the leaderboard was France’s Nastasia Nadaud who followed up a 71 (-1) on Thursday with a 68 (-4) to sit T9.
Joining her, Arafi, and Manzalini on the weekend was Schmidt, Renate Grimstad, Emma Spitz, Louise Duncan, Kirsten Rudgeley, Vanessa Knecht, Trichat Cheenglab, Sara Kouskova, Yuri Onishi, Sara Kjellker, Alexandra Forsterling, and Momoka Kobori.
On to round three, and a 70 (-2) for Nadaud saw her maintain T9 position while a sensational 66 (-6) from Thailand’s Cheenglab saw last week’s highest ranked rookie soar into T12.
As Kristyna Napoleaova and Cara Gainer battled it out on the final day – the former winning her maiden LET title in a dramatic playoff – Nadaud posted a round of 72 (level) to record her first top-10 of the season and finish as rookie of the week.
Norway’s Grimstad carded a final round of 69 (-3) to end the week T14 and record back-to-back top 15 finishes after placing T10 at the Helsingborg Open.
In the Rookie of the Year standings, Germany’s Patricia Isabel Schmidt – winner of the Belgian Ladies Open – continues to lead the way with 575.28 points. Thailand’s April Angurasaranee is second on 518.83 points while 18-year-old Nadaud now jumps into sixth position.
Next up for our rookies is a trip to Prague for the Tipsport Czech Ladies Open at Royal Beroun Golf Club.
