DURHAM – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced the 2022-23 All-ACC Academic Team for men’s golf on Tuesday, including a league-leading six selections from Duke.
Six Blue Devils earning recognition sets a new program record for All-ACC Academic players in a single season. Ian Siebers earns his third All-ACC Academic nod and Jimmy Zheng has now been recognized in back-to-back years. Kelly Chinn, Ethan Evans, William Love and Luke Sample all pick up their first All-ACC Academic honor. It is the 13th consecutive season with at least three Duke men’s golfers on the All-ACC Academic team. At least two Blue Devils have been selected every year since the award’s inception in 2007.
Siebers becomes the first Blue Devil to make the All-ACC Academic Team three times since Adrien Pendaris did so from 2018-2021. Zheng notches his second consecutive spot after his first appearance as a sophomore last year.
Sample led the team in stroke average (71.47) this season, with Love and Chinn following closely with the third and fourth-best stroke averages this year with a 71.80 and 72.05, respectively. Evans rounds out the Blue Devils’ representation on the team after participating in all but one of Duke’s team events this season. The Blue Devils appeared in the match play portion of the ACC Championship for the first time in program history, before advancing out of the Norman Regional to play in the program’s eighth NCAA Championship during head coach Jamie Green‘s 15-year tenure.
Academic requirements for selection to the team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. In addition, student-athletes must have competed in 50 percent of their team’s contests and/or the ACC Championships and/or the NCAA Championships during the most recent season.
