CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia head women’s golf coach Ria Scott announced today (July 3) the addition of Annie Collom to the Cavalier program as an assistant coach. Collom replaces Marissa Majors who is stepping away from coaching to focus on her family.
Collom is no stranger to the Commonwealth. She competed for the Richmond program from 2015 to 2019.
“We are very fortunate to be adding an experienced coach like Annie to our program,” Scott said. “She knows what it takes to excel at a high academic institution and is incredibly driven to help these student-athletes succeed. She already shares many of our values, puts relationships at the forefront and believes strongly in a well-rounded student-athlete experience. She is no stranger to conference championships and postseason play both as a player and a coach. Virginia golf is lucky to have her.”
The past two seasons she has served as the assistant coach at Denver. Last year at Denver, Collom helped the Crimson and Gold add to the legacy of the program, securing its fourth straight Summit League Championship by setting a 54-hole tournament record for a team with a 852 score. The Pioneers also posted the second lowest team scoring average in program history at 291.24.
The Pioneers picked up five All-Summit League selections in 2022-23, with four being first-team selections. Denver also produced the Summit League Golfer of the Year for the second consecutive season and the Summit League Championship MVP.
Collom helped Denver secure its third straight, and seventh overall, Summit League Championship in her first year with the program. That season Denver had three all-conference performers in addition to the Summit League Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.
Prior to working at Denver, Collom spent two seasons at Denison University as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s golf teams. In 2021, both the men and women’s golf programs won the NCAC Championship and earned trips to the NCAA Tournament. She coached the NCAC Player of the Year, four male golfers to All-American honors and two female golfers to All-Region accolades.
