Christensen Qualifies for 151st Open Championship

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona men’s golf program will have one of it’s current players competing in the 151st Open Championship at Royal Liverpool later this month after rising junior Tiger Christensen tied for fourth place at West Lancashire Golf Club on Tuesday. The top five finishers over the 36 holes earned qualification to the final major of the 2023 golf calendar.

Christensen posted rounds of 68 and 67 to finish at 9-under par, tying Alex Fitzpatrick for fourth place. Matt Wallace won the qualifier with a score of 11-under par while Matthew Jordan and Kyle Barker were both one shot back at 10-under par.

The 151st Open Championship takes place at Royal Liverpool from July 20-23 and will be televised on NBA, Peacock and USA Network (check local listings). This will be the 13th time that the course has hosted The Open Championship, with the last time coming in 2014 when Rory McIlroy lifted the Claret Jug.

After playing his freshman season at Oklahoma State in 2021-22, Christensen transferred to Arizona for the spring portion of the 2022-23 season and posted the second-lowest scoring average on the team (71.68). He finished inside the top 10 in three of his first four tournaments as a Wildcat and fired a final round 65 at the John Burns Intercollegiate to finish in sixth place individually.

He has experience winning on the international golf circuit, claiming the title at the 2021 German International Amateur with rounds of 65-70-67-66 and he also won the Schäfflertanz International Open and Triple A European Open in 2020.
