Five Duke Golfers Set for U.S. Open at Pebble Beach


PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – With the 2023 edition of the U.S. Women’s Open set to get started Thursday at Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif., Duke women’s golf will be represented with five golfers competing.  Seeing action will be Jaravee Boonchant, Celine Boutier, Lindy Duncan, Brittany Lang and Leona Maguire.  

The tournament will take place from July 6-9 with 156 golfers and a purse featuring $10,000,000.  Duke 2019 graduate Miranda Wang is an on-site alternate in case anyone drops out by Thursday morning.  

Lang, the 2016 U.S. Women’s Open Champion, will see action in her 19th straight U.S. Women’s Open, which is currently the second-longest active streak for the tournament. Over her career, Lang owns 57 career top-10 finishes and has collected over $7,000,000 in earnings on the LPGA Tour.  

Seeing action in her seventh U.S. Women’s Open, Boutier has made the cut in three of those events, including a tied for fifth placement in 2019 at the Country Club of Charleston.  She has made the cut in each of the last two appearances placing tied for 34th and tied for 35th, respectively.  Boutier currently ranks 14th on the 2023 LPGA money list with one victory and three top-10 finishes for $638,453 earnings.  

One of the hottest golfers on the tour entering the Open this week is Maguire, coming off a victory and top-11 finish in the last two events.  Maguire will compete in her fifth U.S. Women’s Open and is coming off a tied for eighth ledger a year ago in Pinehurst.  She recently moved into the top-10 of the Rolex professional rankings for the first time in her career and owns one win, five top-10 and $882,836 earnings this year.  

A rookie on the LPGA Tour this season, Boonchant will participate in the U.S. Women’s Open for the first time in her career.  Boonchant, a 2021 Duke graduate, has totaled one top-10 finish on the season and $99,694 earnings.  

Duncan, a 2013 Blue Devil graduate, will see action in her sixth U.S. Women’s Open and the first since 2019.  She has made the cut in four straight appearances with a career-best finish in 2013 at Sebonack Golf Club with a tied for 15th finish.  Duncan has earned $1,256,773 on the tour since turning professional.
