Five from Women’s Golf Earn WGCA All-America Scholar Recognition


PISCATAWAY, N.J. – All five members of the Rutgers women’s golf team were named 2022-23 Women’s Golf Association (WGCA) Division I All-American Scholars.
 
Maeve Rossi receives the fifth honor of her career, becoming the first player in program history to receive All-America Scholar honors five times.

Leigha Devine and Rikke Nordvik each received the accolade for the third time in their respective careers, while Nicole Ewing and Lucrezia Rossettin each received the honor for the second time. 

The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50, while a recipient must have played in at least 50 percent of their team’s rounds during the 2022-23 season. The WGCA, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women’s collegiate golf coaches.

 

Under head coach Kari Williams, the Scarlet Knights have now accumulated 45 All-America Scholar awards since 2015. Additionally, all five members of the team received 2023 Academic All-Big Ten honors this Spring. 

 

Rutgers continued to grow and set records under Williams in 2022-23. The Scarlet Knights won the team title at the Rocket Classic is the fall and Leigha Devine (Badger Invitational) and Rikke Nordvik (Rocket Classic) each won individual titles. Devine’s score at the Badger Invitational also set an event record. 

The campaign saw numerous program records set both as a team and as individuals. The team’s 54-hole total of 3-under 861 set a program record by four strokes and was the first 54-hole score under par. RU also set program marks with 293 birdies a 4.2806 scoring average on par fours. 

Leigha Devine set single-season records for scoring average (+1.67), birdies (86), par-5 scoring (4.9083). She also set the RU record for career rounds of par or better with 18. –

Maeve Rossi set a trio of program records with career birdies (265), rounds (135) and counting scores (122).
