CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – All six of South Carolina’s eligible players were named Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars, the organization recently announced. Graduate transfer Katherine Muzi, senior Mathilde Claisse, senior Justine Fournand, sophomore Hannah Darling, sophomore Louise Rydqvist and freshman Mia Sandtorv Lussand all earned recognition for their outstanding performance in the classroom.
A total of 1,401 women’s collegiate golfers from 378 programs were recognized this year with the prestigious honor.
The criteria for selection to the All-American scholar team is some of the most stringent in all of college athletics and continues to demonstrate the high-level academic achievements of players across the nation in women’s collegiate golf.
To be selected, a student-athlete must:
- Have an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher.
- Be an amateur and on the team’s roster through the conclusion of the team’s season.
- Have played in 50% of the college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year nominated through the team’s conference championship.
Off the course, the Gamecocks posted a 3.842 team GPA in the spring semester which was the highest in the athletic department. Four players were named to the President’s List (4.0 GPA) and every player on the roster had a GPA of 3.5 our higher. Carolina’s cumulative team GPA is 3.830.
The Gamecocks had another stellar season on the course as well as the team matched the program’s best finish in school history at the NCAA Championship (May 19-23). Carolina made match play for the second time ever and T-5th (finished fifth in 2012 and T-5th in 2016). The team finished fourth in stroke play portion of NCAA finals and shot the lowest 72-hole score in program history at the NCAA Championship at 1,153 (+1). The Gamecocks and top-ranked Stanford were the only teams in the 30-team field to have three players finish in the top-25. Carolina finished in the top-five in all 12 of the team’s events this season, a new program record, and finished the year ranked No. 4 in the final Golfstat Team Rankings. The Gamecocks had the toughest schedule in the country via the Golfweek/Sagrain Rankings.
