Brinker, Smith Prepped for Canadian Women’s Amateur


HALIFAX, NS, Canada – A pair of Duke women’s golfers – Phoebe Brinker and Andie Smith – are prepped and ready to compete in the 109th Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship that will be contested Aug. 1-4 at the Ashburn Golf Club New Course in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.  

A total of 156 golfers will compete over 72 holes of stroke play.  Following 36 holes, the field will be cut to the low 70 players and ties.  

Brinker, a product of Wilmington, Del., opens action Tuesday at 8:10 a.m., off hole No. 1, while Smith, who is from Hobe Sound, Fla., tees off at 9:10 a.m., also off hole No. 1.  

The 2023 Canadian Women’s Amateur champion will receive an exemption into the 2023 CPKC Women’s Open, 2023 U.S Women’s Amateur Championship and the 2024 Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship.

Over the history of the Canadian Women’s Amateur, Duke standout Sarah LeBrun Ingram claimed the title in 1990.  The last Blue Devil to compete in the tournament was Gina Kim in 2019.  She turned in a tied for seventh finish with rounds of 72, 73, 74 and 68 for a 1-under, 287.
