LOS ANGELES – The USC men’s golf program has hired Evan Emerick to the position of assistant coach, head coach Mark Hankins announced on Monday, Aug. 21.

Previously, Emerick served as the associate head coach for San Diego State during the 2022-23 season. His tenure with the Aztecs spanned 15 years, either as a player or on staff at SDSU.

“Evan brings a wealth of coaching experience in the southern California area,” head coach Mark Hankins said. “He is passionate about working in collegiate golf and with the players, and we are excited to have him join our team.”

Emerick served in several positions for the San Diego State. He began as a volunteer assistant coach (2013-2015) before being promoted to director of operations and associate head coach for the golf program (2015-2022). Emerick has helped coach and recruit some of the best players in SDSU history as he worked with nine GCAA All-Americans and 14 Ping All-West Region team members, including the 2020 Olympic gold medal winner and seven-time winner on the PGA Tour Xander Schauffele. SDSU appeared in the NCAA National Championship three times (2015, 2016 and 2021), made it to the NCAA Regionals ten times and won the Mountain West Conference Tournament three times (2015, 2022 and 2023).

“We are excited to welcome Evan into the Trojan Family,” USC’s Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director Paul Perrier said. “We are impressed with his high character and proven ability of developing players. He will provide strong leadership and serve as a great role model for our student-athletes.”

Since the 2022-23 season concluded, Emerick has served as a Next Gen Club Fitting Analyst at the Titleist Performance Institute in Oceanside, Calif. As a coach, he has been an instructor at over 50 college camps and has been a board member of the North County Junior Golf Association since 2008.

Emerick played for SDSU for four years (2008-2012), where he was a member of the Aztecs team that was ranked No. 4 (2010-2012) in the country. Emerick competed at the 2011 U.S. Amateur and is a two-time Mountain West Scholar-Athlete (2010, 2012). He graduated from SDSU in 2012 with a degree in public administration.
