DURHAM – For the eighth-straight Solheim Cup, Duke women’s golf will be represented as Blue Devil graduates Celine Boutier and Leona Maguire were two of eight automatic qualifiers for the European Team that was announced this week. The 2023 Solheim Cup will be contested Sept. 22-24 at Finca Corstein in Spain.
It will mark the third straight appearance for Boutier, while Maguire competes for the second consecutive event. Both Duke golfers have been impressive in the Solheim Cup, winning 10 points out of a possible 12 over three events.
Boutier, who made her Solheim Cup debut in 2019, is a two-time winner and has won 5.5 points in her seven matches at the previous two editions.
“I’m really looking forward to being part of Team Europe at the 2023 Solheim Cup,” said Boutier. “It’s going to be such an enjoyable week and it’s always a lot of fun. I’ve had such a great year winning on the LPGA in March and then to get my first major title at Evian and to win in Scotland the week after.”
A 2016 Blue Devil graduate, Boutier has turned in an impressive year on the LPGA with three victories, including her first major win at the Evian Championship this summer. She currently leads the Race to the CME Globe and is second in the Rolex Player of the Year race. Boutier has won $2,162,551 over 16 events in 2023.
“It’s been unbelievable and I’m so excited to have qualified to play in the Solheim Cup,” said Bouter. “To be able to share the week with my teammates and be able to compete for Europe on European soil for the first time since 2019 will be amazing.”
After an outstanding rookie performance in Toledo in 2021 where she earned 4.5 points out of five, Maguire returns to Team Europe.
“I’m really excited to be part of the European Team at this year’s Solheim Cup,” said Maguire. “I had an incredible time in Toledo, it was way beyond my expectations, but I can’t wait to be part of Team Europe on European soil and to play in front of home fans. It’s great to be flying the flag for Ireland once again and I hope to have lots of support in Spain.”
Maguire, a 2018 Duke graduate, has featured a solid 2023 season on the LPGA as well with one victory and five top-10 finishes, while earning $1,058,736. She won her second career LPGA event in June at the Meijer LPGA Classic with a 21-under-par score.
