PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The first two days have been carded for the Mississippi State women’s golf squad. After both rounds, the Bulldogs sit in sole possession of fourth place.
Ana Pina Ortega was the highlight for day one. In her Carmel Cup debut, she finished with a 70 (-2) after the first round. With that score, Ortega set a new personal record for lowest score through 18 holes, with her previous low spanning back to 2021. Ortega picked up seven birdies on the day.
As a team, the Dawgs finished +4 after the first round. That locked State in a three way tie with Texas A&M and Vanderbilt.
Day two featured low scores from four different Bulldogs. Izzy Pellot and Chiara Horder both carded 71’s (-1). Freshman Avery Weed was able to pick up a 70 (-2) in the second round of her collegiate debut. After picking up seven birdies and an eagle, Julia Lopez Ramirez was able to card a 68 (-4).
With the four scores under par, State was to stay two under as a team. They then moved to sole possession of fourth place with a two-day score of +2.
The final round of the Carmel Cup is ahead of State. It begins Sunday morning, with the first Bulldog teeing off at 9:54 CT. With software issues, there were no live statistics for the second day of the tournament. However, live stats for day three can be found at 2023carmelcup.golfgenius.com
