Vols Remain in Lead After Two Rounds at Visit Knoxville Collegiate


LOUDON, Tenn. – The 10th-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team went low on day two of the Visit Knoxville Collegiate and remain in the lead heading into round three.

After leading Mississippi State by just one stroke after round one, the Vols put on more steam and shot 15-under and sit at 22-under overall. They hold a 12-stroke lead over the Bulldogs heading into Sunday.

Additionally, four members of the starting lineup shot under-par during round two and each sit inside the top ten.

Woosley-Reed led the team in round two scoring after firing a 64. His round two score ties his career-low 18-hole score in relation to par. The Shelbyville native notched eight birdies en route to his 6-under performance. He is 5-under overall and sits tied for third place going into the last round.

Providing Tennessee with its second-best round of the day was Simpson. The Knoxville native shot a 5-under 65 that included six birdies and a bogey-free back nine. The redshirt sophomore is currently tied for third. 

Jake Hall gave UT its third counting round of the day. The redshirt senior put up a bogey-free 67 that included three birdies. Hall is 3-under overall and tied for seventh place after round two.

The final member of Tennessee’s lineup, Caleb Surratt, withdrew from the tournament due to illness.

Competing individually, Murphy put up a steady 1-under round. The Johns Creek, Georgia, native opened Saturday’s round with a birdie then coasted through the rest of the round with 17 consecutive pars. Murphy is 3-under and tied for seventh place entering round three.

Jean-Philippe Parr, who is one of Tennessee’s individuals, also posted a 1-under round on Saturday. The true freshman notched six birdies and sits at 4-over and tied for 32nd place going into the third round.

Laurent Desmarchais improved upon his round one score and shot a 2-over 72 in the second round. He is tied for 47th place in the field.

Josh Hill shot a 74 on day two and is tied for 63rd entering day three.
