Women’s Golf Set to Open Season at ANNIKA Intercollegiate Monday


DURHAM – Duke is set to open the 50th season of women’s golf and the 40th under the direction of head coach Dan Brooks as the Blue Devils open the 2023-24 campaign in Lake Elmo, Minn., at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate Sept. 11-13.  

The intercollegiate will be contested at the Royal Golf Club for the fifth straight year.  The Blue Devils are coming off a tied for fourth-place finish a year ago, while senior Phoebe Brinker placed fourth overall with a 6-under-par, 210.  

Competing along with the Blue Devils in 2023 is Baylor, Florida State, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Oregon, San Jose State, South Carolina, Texas, Texas A&M, Virginia and Wake Forest.  

Duke, ranked No. 14 nationally in the preseason, will field a lineup that includes Brinker, senior Anne Chen, graduate student Emma McMyler, sophomore Andie Smith and freshman Katie Li.  

Both McMyler and Li will make their Duke debuts after solid showings over the summer.  Li, who hails from Basking Ridge, N.J., won the AJGA Polo Golf Junior Classic, while advancing to match play at the North & South Women’s Amateur and the U.S. Women’s Amateur.  A native of San Antonio, Texas, McMyler won the Women’s Southern Amateur Championship and advanced to the quarterfinals of match play at the North & South Women’s Amateur.  

Overall, the Blue Devils featured an impressive summer of golf as Brinker finished tied for ninth and Smith placed tied for 13th at the Canadian Women’s Amateur.  Brinker, who is from Wilmington, Del., was also the low amateur at the Inspirato Colorado Women’s Open.  A product of Sugar Land, Texas, Chen placed second in stroke-play at the North & South Women’s Amateur and advanced to the round of 16 at the U.S. Women’s Amateur.  Smith, who is from Hobe Sound, Fla., advanced to the round of 32 at the U.S. women’s Amateur.  

Brooks enters his 40th season as the head coach at Duke with a NCAA-record 141 team wins and seven NCAA Championships.  He has guided the Blue Devils to 21 ACC Championships and 10 Regional titles, while his golfers have won 118 events and groomed 40 Blue Devils who have gone on to play professional golf.  

Round one tee times will run from 8:30 a.m., to 10 a.m., off hole No. 1 and No. 10.
