The Missouri women’s golf team continued its climb up the standings, moving up three spots on the final day of the Sam Golden Invitational and placing fourth as a team in Texas.
The Lady Tigers broke 280 for the second-straight round, carding a 10-under 278 during the final 18 holes of action to move from seventh to fourth with a three-round score of 21-under. Mizzou’s overall team score of 843 is the second best in school history, while it marks the third time with two rounds under 280 in a single tournament.
Junior Ffion Tynan led the Lady Tigers on Tuesday with a five-under 67. Carding five birdies on the day for her best round of the tournament (72-67-67), she placed seventh overall with a 10-under 206. Her first collegiate top-10 finish also tied for 4th in all-time individual low tournament for a Tiger.
Sophomore Melanie Walker and freshman Fleur van Beek finish second on the team and 22nd overall at five-under 213. Walker used five birdies with no bogeys to card a career-best 67 during the final round. Following up her school freshman record of 67 yesterday, van Beek recorded a 70 to finish with the third-best rookie tournament in school history (212).
Emily Staples (68-71-79) and Winnie Ng (75-74-74) rounded out the scoring for Mizzou.
Houston won the team title with North Texas and UTSA finishing second and third, respectively.
The Lady Tigers return to Columbia for the Johnie Imes Invitational at The Club at Old Hawthorne, starting September 25.
