Vilips Leads After Day One


OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Senior Karl Vilips headed to the clubhouse with a share of the lead after 18 holes at the Fighting Illini Invitational on Sunday afternoon, leading a Stanford group that sits tied for 12th in the team standings after day one.
 
Vilips tied Georgia Tech’s Christo Lamprecht with a 5-under 65 through one round on the North Course at Olympia Fields Country Club. The Australian tallied seven birdies and two bogeys on the day, including a stretch of three straight birdies on holes 15 through 17 to make a late round surge to the top of the leaderboard.
 
Barclay Brown was the second-leading golfer in the Stanford lineup, shooting a 2-over 72 with two birdies and four bogeys. Freshman Ethan Gao and Kush Arora shot a 4-over 74 and 6-over 76, respectively, while Sean-Karl Dobson rounded out the lineup with a 7-over 77.
 
Dean Greyserman competed on the individual side for the second-straight weekend, as he reached as high as third in the leaderboard through nine alongside Vilips before ultimately finishing the day with a 1-over 71 to sit tied at 25th.
 
Action resumes at Olympia Fields tomorrow morning with tee times beginning 7 a.m. PT.
