Maxwell Ford shot 65, the second-lowest round of his career, and was one of four Tar Heels to shoot in the 60s as the top-ranked University of North Carolina men’s golf team surged to a six-stroke lead after the second round in the Olympia Fields Fighting Illini Invitational Saturday at the Olympia Fields North Course.
Maxwell Ford is 8-under-par 132 after rounds of 67-64, one off the lead of Georgia Tech’s Cristo Lamprecht, who is 9 under. Maxwell Ford made six birdies and one bogey for the round, including a 4-under 31 on the back side.
His low round was a 64 in the third round of the Ka’anapali Classic in Hawai’i.
Austin Greaser shot 3-under 67, David Ford carded a 2-under 68, Dylan Menante, who is tied for 13th, had a 1-under 69 and Kenan Poole finished with a 1-over 71.
The Tar Heels shot 11 under par today, six strokes better than Arizona State’s second-round 275. UNC’s 269 total today ties the fifth-lowest round in UNC history.
Carolina is 10 under after 36 holes. Texas is second at 4 under, Georgia Tech is a stroke back of the Longhorns, Arizona State is fourth at even and Alabama is fifth at 1 over.
