Women's Golf Finishes Sixth at Nittany Lion Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Battling injuries and playing through sickness along with the elements on Sunday, the Penn State women’s golf team finished sixth at the 47th annual Nittany Lion Invitational this weekend at the Penn State Blue Course.

Boston College won the event at 13-over five shots clear of second place James Madison (18-over). The Dukes used the low round of the day at 2-over, 290, to climb three spots into runner-up position. JMU was nine shots better than its next closest competitor during Sunday’s final round.

The tournament victory for the Eagles was their first-ever NLI team championship as BC became just the 18th different champion other than the Nittany Lions in the history of the event.

High Point (24-over), Youngstown State (24-over) and Richmond (31-over) rounded out the top-five ahead of the Nittany Lions in sixth at 33-over.

Senior Victoria Tip-Aucha (Vienna, Va.) paced Penn State on Sunday with a 2-over, 74, finishing the weekend in a tie for ninth at 6-over, 222, matching her career-best finish also at the Nittany Lion Invitational two years ago.

Junior Michelle Cox (Allentown, Pa.) also finished tied for ninth at 6-over after opening the weekend with a 3-under, 69, followed by rounds of 78 and 75.

Senior Carlota Garcia (Salamanca, Spain) had her best finish as a Nittany Lion in a tie for 18th as she sandwiched a 2-over, 74, between a pair of 76’s concluding the week 10-over, 226.

Junior Drew Nienhaus (St. Louis, Mo.) and sophomore Myranda Quinton (Burlington, Ontario) each finished the weekend tied for 26th at 12-over, 228, while junior Jami Morris (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) concluded her invitational in a tie for 38th.

Final results can be seen HERE.

Penn State takes a few weeks off before returning to the links with a trip to Norfolk, Virginia and the Evie Odom Invitational on October 6-8.
